Arjun Reddy movie review : Vijay Deverakonda’s uncompromising ode to life

Arjun Reddy is a Telugu film starring Vijay Deverakonda in titular role. A character like Arjun Reddy does not come in a career which is merely 6 years old, and if it does then one should be smart as Vijay to take it. Arjun Reddy is like a poetry in motion, which is an odd to many essence of life and life itself. Arjun Reddy is a middle class boy, who has anger issues. His anger issues are a trouble for himself and his family. After setting up the character for 10-15 minutes in the film, it becomes a love story. When Arjun encounters Preeti (Shalini Pandey) who is his junior in college and in the sweetest monologue ever he explains the boys of his college to not try their hands on Preeti.

That monologue is actually the beginning of 2nd act which comes so early in the film but Vijay did it so effortlessly that it sets up the tone for entire film. As the story progresses Arjun and Preeti get married only to fall out of love again because of Arjun. Arjun now is struggling for his life as he has become destructive because of a broken heart. He is constantly drinking, smoking and has made his life hell. Arjun Reddy is this sour yet beautiful poetry in himself. Their is a saying among destructive romantic poets, ” Humne to apna hi ghar phoonk ke uska tamasha dekha (We burnt our own house and then saw the drama around it).

Arjun is not the kind of person that anyone should spent his life with because he is moody to the extent of self-destructiveness and there is no construct in him after that. Arjun is not ideal, right, likeable, perfect but he is that secret corner of human emotions which everyone hates because it is real. Direction of Sandeep Reddy Vanga is brilliant, if it is autobiographical or not. Arjun Reddy is a personal story converted into a motion picture which is a rarity in Telugu cinema. Despite the fact that Thala has arrived with Vivegam, Arjun Reddy should be seen by many.
