The Ajith-Siva movie Vivegam was expected to open with big numbers(which it did) but there was an unusual victor today as the low-budget Arjun Reddy held its own against Vivegam, especially in Hyderabad. Also in theatres was A Gentleman starring Sidharth Malhotra, Jacqueline Fernandez and Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s Babumoshai Bandookbaz.
The movie picked up a gross collection of 10.3 crores in domestic earnings and 3.5 crores in overseas earnings for a total of 13.8 crores. The ratio of returns to investment is high on Arjun Reddy, and producers are bound to be happy with the movie, especially because the movie has received rave reviews from critics and the audience and is bound to become a favourite for many years to come.
The movie runs for a marathon three hours, and it was no mean feat to make a movie that was appreciated by almost everyone with that long a run time. Directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga and starring Vijay Devarakonda, who first became a hit for his performance in the 2016 movie Pellichoopulu, Arjun Reddy is even reported to have fetched higher revenues in the US than Vivegam.

Many are pointing to the unexpected success of Arjun Reddy, that was made on a shoe string budget, as testament to the talents of Vijay and are hailing him as the next big thing in South Indian cinema. The movie also features Shalini Pandey and Sanjay Swaroop, and relates the story of a young and brilliant medico Arjun with anger management issues.
