superstar Alia Bhatt has joined the cast of ‘Sadak 2’, which will be directed by her sister Pooja Bhatt. Sadak 2 is the sequel to 1991 blockbuster Sadak, which starred Sanjay Dutt and Pooja Bhatt in the lead roles. Directed by Mahesh Bhatt, Sadak went onto become the second highest grossing movie of 1991 and seventh highest grossing movie of 90’s. Film’s music was a superhit and it was termed as a cult classic upon the time it released now 27 years after Pooja Bhatt has decided to direct the sequel.
Alia is the only one finalized to do the film as it is mostly a family affair for her now rest of the cast is not finalized yet and it will be quite a task for anyone of the original star cast to return. Sadak was remade in Tamil in 2000 by the name of Appu starring Prashanth in the lead role and went onto become a superhit. Sadak as a film does have an universal language but it can be difficult to take the events of first film and straight away continue the film because most people of young generation would not even have an idea of that film.
In the end of Sadak, Sanjay Dutt’s character Ravi was able to escape with Pooja after killing Maharani and their story from that point is not shown. Sanjay Dutt’s character can come back to Sadak 2 and story can be continued but since most people don’t know Sadak, the whole point of taking the name and using it as a brand would be quite pointless because nobody is going to find and watch that film to now see the latest one. Plot details of the film are not revealed yet by the makers and will be in their own time. Meanwhile, today Alia Bhatt has started shooting for her upcoming epic by the name of Brahmastra with Ranbir Kapoor.
