Aiyaary box office collection: Neeraj Pandey’s lowest till date

There is something called the Siddharth Malhotra curse, which works on everyone whoever tries to make a film with him. Before Aiyaary, Pandey had a 100% hit box office record with all his films banking well as well as earning accolades from critics and audiences. He made one film with Malhotra and it is a colossal disaster with bad reviews. Malhotra is not the only one to be blamed for it as Pandey’s direction totally lost the grip in this supposed thriller which ended up being a cat chase in the name of Indian Army intelligence.

Pandey has not only directed but produced super hits like Toilet-Ek Prem Kath and Rustom but those films had superstar Akshay Kumar at his finest. Aiyaary opened to dull 3.36 crores on Friday and did not more than 4.05 crores on Saturday. Since the word of mouth around that film was very bad it only went up to 4.35 crores on Sunday and from that point on it started getting replenished faster than Tigers in India. By the end of weekend fate of Aiyaary was sealed and absolutely no promotional strategy could save the film.

On Monday film made 1.43 crores only to go as low as 1.20 crores on Tuesday and finally coming to 97 lacs on Wednesday. As it is getting down day by day film could only manage 88 lacs on Thursday, while it is very difficult for it to have a second week considering the fact that Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety has released and is mostly running with pack houses. Aiyaary was an out and out no show and audience responded similarly to it despite of phenomenal performances from the likes of Manoj Bajpayee and Naseeruddin Shah. Both Naseer and Anupam Kher re-uinted with Pandey after their 2008 cult classic A Wednesday and the results were as lethal only in the exactly opposite direction.
