Prolific actor Abhay Deol does not believe in doing run of the mill films but the poster of his upcoming ‘Nanu Ki Jaanu’ does not exactly looks like an avant garde work. ‘Citylights’ famed Patralekha who starred opposite Rajkumar Rao in the film is now playing the female lead with Abhay. Poster screams that this one is a horror comedy and Patralekha might be playing the love-able ghost. Hindi film industry has a habit of falling into trends if one film of a certain kind works on the box office and the success of horror comedy ‘Golmaal Again’ is causing the steer.
Directed by Rohit Shetty, ‘Golmaal Again’ showcased the horror comedy genre this time on the Diwali of 2017 and ended up minting over 200 crores on the box office. Several other film makers though this could be a great success plan and started developing horror comedies. ‘Nanu Ki Jaanu’ is only one such example while Rajkumar Rhimself is currently shooting for a film called ‘Stree’ which is a horror comedy co-starring Shraddha Kapoor. Trend will continue till many films of similar kind start to fall on it’s face on the box office.
Abhay does not sign many films because he is quite content consciousness but whatever made him pull his pen on this one. Abhay is also shooting for Shahrukh Khan starrer ‘Zero’ in which he is paired opposite Katrina Kaif. He does not have many announced films in the pipelines so far while nobody has seen Patralekha since ‘Citylights’. Tag line of the film is ‘when a ghost falls in love with a crook’ hence Abhay is portraying a con man of sorts in the film. Trailer is not out yet though release date is 20 April to clash with Majid Majidi directorial ‘Beyond the clouds’. ‘Nanu Ki Jaanu’ is directed by Faraz Haider.
