Aamir Khan’s ‘Dangal’ awarded as the ‘Best Asian Film’

Well deserving, Aamir Khan starrer, “Dangal” has added a new feather to its overflowing cap, as it has been awarded as the ‘Best Asian Film’ at the seventh Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) Award. Today, this amazing piece of news was shared by Taran Adarsh, a trade analyst, who tweets, “What an amazing week for Aus-NZ distributor Mitu Bhowmick Lange… Won Indywood Carnival’s Most Popular Indian Film Festival Abroad… #Dangal won Best Asian Film at AACTA… Finally, Mitu became the first Indian to receive Jill Robb Screen Leadership Award… Great going, Mitu!”

The Best Asian Film is directed by Nitesh Kumar and is a sports drama which was based on the real life of Haryana wrestler Mahavir Phogat and his daughters. The film, Dangal is starred Aamir Khan as Mahavir Phogat with Fatima Sana Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra playing the role of the adult version of professional wrestlers Geeta and Babita, who are daughters of Phogat pehlwan. Also, Sakshi Tanwar and Suhani Bhatnagar are in the amazing roles in the movie.

The movie successfully earned more than $6 million in China and Hong Kong in less than a week’s time. following this Dangal went on to become a fifth highest grossing non-English film, and also, one of China’s top 20 highest-grossing films. These movies like which give everyone a taste of Indian cinema in the perfect way.

Veteran actress Shabana Azmi who is also a member of the Grand Jury for Best Asian Film, was also tweeted and congratulate Dangal team, “‘Dangal’ wins Best Asian Film at AACTA. Congratulations Team Dangal.”

The jury of 7th Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) Awards, was chaired by actor Russell Crowe. And Bollywood star Shabana tweeted a photograph with Russell Crowe, and wrote about the selection of Dangal as a Best Asian Movie, “It was a unanimous decision.”
