The swine flu, or the H1N1 virus, is a subtype of influenza A virus and is common among pig populations throughout the world. However, the virus is known to migrate to humans and has caused several endemic outbreaks, the deadliest of them being the Spanish flu that claimed between 50 and 100 million people in 1918 and 1919. The disease has raised hackles in the country before, with an outbreak in India in 2015 claimed 1900 lives, and remains a cause of worry for the state authorities.
