This year has been one of the most controversial oscar nominations of all time as there are a lot of movements going on in Hollywood including equal pay for women and cases of sexual misconduct. Academy is known to be politically motivated and this might be the reason why a female cinematographer has been nominated for the award. Del Toro’s Shape of Water has bagged 13 nominations in all the major categories and air space is saying that it is because he is Mexican and everybody is hell bent on taking on Donald Trump.
Christopher Nolan has bagged the best director nomination for the first time for Dunkirk when he should have been nominated for the fifth time at least or so his filmography suggests. Dunkirk is also nominated in Best Picture category which makes it eight nominations in total. Roger Deakins has got his 14th nomination in cinematography for Blade Runner 2049 which makes him the most nominated cinematographer of all time but not one single even. Meryl Streep has been nominated for 19th time now for her performance in The Post directed by Steven Spielberg and the film has also got a best picture nomination.
Nate Parkar’s The Birth of a Nation was totally ignored from any award as his old case came about in the media which overshadowed his brilliant film. James Franco was just saved by the inches to be boycotted from the award circle for his film The Disaster Artist as sexual misconduct allegations against him are becoming more real by the day. Franco enjoyed Best actor comedy/musical award in Golden Globes for The Disaster Artist as the allegation against him came a little later. World is becoming more sensitive everyday for the topics it should have been originally and Times Up is one of them. Woody Allen is almost boycotted from the cinema because of charges against him.
