NASA has just opened the Planetary protection jobs to protect our planet “Earth” from aliens. This position is assigned to the office of the Safety and Mission Assurance for the planet’s protection. NASA is now looking for the planetary protection officer who is responsible for the leadership of the NASA planetary protection capability. The PPO planetary protection officer’s planet protection policies and their implementation oversight by NASA space flight missions.

The PPO position is assigned to the person who is eligible for the Office of Safety and Mission Assurance for Planetary Protection. And it is concerned with the avoidance of organic-constituent and biological contamination in human and robotic space exploration. Currently, the agency requires the SL appointments to be time limited. And the initial appointment will be for three years with the possibility of extending for an additional 2 years. The person who gets selected for this posts will receive a temporary promotion.

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration maintains the policies for planetary that is applicable to all the space flight missions intentionally or unintentionally carries the Earth organisms and organic constituents to the planets or other solar system bodies. This policy is based on federal requirements, international treaties and agreements.

Eligibility Criteria

  • The candidate who is interested to apply for the job of Planetary Protection Officer should possess broad engineering expertise at least 1-year of which is in positions at or comparable to the GS-15 level. And they must be recognized subject matter expert possess.
  • Candidates should have advanced knowledge of Planetary Protection that includes the evaluations in considerably complex situations and demonstrated technical expertise to independently form technically sound judgments.
  • They should have demonstrated experience planning, executing, or overseeing elements of space programs of national significance. These elements include but are not limited to developing requirements, performing technical assessments, and preparing recommendations for leadership.
  • The skills in diplomacy that resulted in win-win solutions during extremely difficult and complex multilateral discussions that include building coalitions amongst organizations to achieve common goals. Candidates must provide examples as to how you meet these requirements.

The job recruitment started from 13th July 2017 and the last day to apply for this is 14th August 2017. The pay scale and grade of this job is $124,406 to $187,000 per year.
